IPO performance 2026: Nifty is down 11%, but these IPOs have doubled investors’ money

Ten months gone, two to go — and India’s primary market has already rung the listing bell for 100 mainboard companies in 2026. In a year when the Nifty 50 has slipped more than 11%, IPO performance in 2026 tells a very different story. So which IPOs actually made money, which ones destroyed it, and which are still climbing long after listing day? We crunched the numbers on every mainboard listing, and you can download the full dataset free.

Prices as of close, 16 October 2026.

Key takeaways
  • Nifty 50: −11.4% YTD (26,130 on 31 Dec 2025 → 23,146 on 16 Oct 2026). The median 2026 IPO is up +21.3%.
  • 75 of 100 IPOs have beaten the Nifty’s year-to-date return; 11 have doubled investors’ money.
  • 56 of 100 trade above their listing price, so investors who bought after listing day could still make money.
  • Top gainer: ESDS Software Solution (+252%). Worst: Waterways Leisure Tourism (−88%).
  • Combined market cap has grown from ₹10.6 lakh crore to ₹12.15 lakh crore since issue.

2026 IPO market overview: 100 listings in 10 months

Taken together, the 100 companies were worth about ₹10.6 lakh crore at their issue prices; at Friday’s close they are worth roughly ₹12.1 lakh crore, so about ₹1.5 lakh crore of value has been added in under ten months. Two-thirds listed at a premium, with an average listing-day gain of 13.4%, and two-thirds still trade above their issue price, with a median return of 21%. The market’s first verdict has largely stuck: 51 of the 66 premium listings are still in the green, while only 9 of the 23 discount listings have recovered. The pace has also quickened, with 73 of the 100 listings arriving from July onwards, including 32 in September alone.

IPOs vs Nifty 2026: where the real returns were

The broader market has had a bruising year. The Nifty 50 began 2026 at 26,129.60 and closed on 16 October at 23,146.15, a fall of about 11.4%. Yet the primary market kept delivering opportunities: three out of four IPOs listed this year have done better than the index, and the typical new listing is up more than 20%. For investors willing to do the homework, the IPO pipeline has offered a far better hunting ground than the index itself.

The most striking point is that the gains were not limited to allotment-day luck. 56 of the 100 IPOs trade above their listing price and 18 have risen more than 50% from it, so investors who missed the allotment could still have bought after listing and made money. Omnitech Engineering has nearly tripled from its ₹205 listing price to ₹610 (+197%). Last-mile logistics firm Shadowfax Technologies is up 157% from its January debut. Xtranet Technologies (+127%), auto-electronics maker SEDEMAC Mechatronics (+111%), Advit Jewels (+108%) and ESDS Software Solution (+100%) have all doubled from where they opened, while Milky Mist Dairy (+84%), OnEMI/Kissht (+83%) and Hero Motors (+82%) are not far behind. The lesson is that listing day is the start of the journey, not the end of it.

Top 5 IPO gainers of 2026: the multibaggers

ESDS Software Solution leads the class by a distance. The cloud, managed-services and data-centre operator listed on 4 September at ₹757, a 76% premium to its ₹429 issue price, and has kept climbing to ₹1,512 — a 252% return that values it at about ₹17,700 crore. Jaipur’s Advit Jewels, a maker of Kundan, Polki and diamond jewellery, is second: issued at ₹138 in July, it now trades at ₹393 (+185%). Omnitech Engineering, a precision-components and automation supplier, is the comeback story of the year: it listed at a 10% discount in March but has since nearly tripled to ₹610 (+169%). Metal-injection-moulding specialist Indo-MIM (+143%) has grown into one of the class’s largest companies at roughly ₹58,400 crore, while Bhopal-based IT services firm Xtranet Technologies (+143%) rounds out the top five despite a modest 7% listing gain.

Top 5 IPO losers of 2026: the wealth destroyers

At the other end, Waterways Leisure Tourism, which runs Cordelia Cruises, has been the year’s most painful bet. The ₹808 issue listed at ₹690 and now sits at ₹97.80, an 88% loss that has shrunk its market value from about ₹5,850 crore to roughly ₹710 crore. Textiles dominate the rest of the list. Gujarat cotton-yarn spinner Aastha Spintex is down 80% to ₹27.34; Shree Ram Twistex, another cotton-yarn maker, which listed at a 35% discount in March, is down 65%; and Ahmedabad’s Alpine Texworld has lost 60% after a flat debut. Insurance-distribution platform Turtlemint Fintech Solutions completes the five at −56%, a reminder that a fintech tag has not been enough on its own.

Biggest IPO listing gains of 2026

Tempsens Instruments, a maker of temperature sensors and industrial heaters, delivered the biggest debut of the year, opening at ₹634 on 28 August, more than double its ₹300 issue price (+111%). Coal India subsidiary Bharat Coking Coal opened the year in style, nearly doubling from ₹23 to ₹45 (+96%) on 19 January, while ESDS (+76%), propeller-shaft maker Adroit Industries (+75%) and cable manufacturer Orient Cables (+65%) also delivered big day-one gains. Holding on to them has been harder: all five remain above their issue price, but only ESDS trades above its listing price today; the other four have each given back part of their debut pop.

Largest IPOs of 2026 by market cap

By size, the class is anchored by the National Stock Exchange of India itself. NSE listed on 24 September at ₹1,800 against an issue price of ₹1,785 and, at ₹1,749, is worth about ₹4.33 lakh crore — more than a third of the entire 2026 IPO class. SBI Funds Management, the asset manager behind SBI Mutual Fund, follows at about ₹1.03 lakh crore, although its shares are 12% below issue. Manipal Health Enterprises, which runs 49 hospitals across 14 states, is worth around ₹84,500 crore (+9%). Indo-MIM (~₹58,400 crore) and Bagmane Prime Office REIT (~₹36,000 crore), which owns Grade A+ office parks in Bengaluru, complete the top five.

Why investors should track the IPO pipeline more actively

The 2026 numbers make a strong case for treating IPOs as a core part of an equity strategy rather than a lottery ticket. Many of this year’s listings are companies at an early stage of their scale-up, just stepping onto the public market with fresh capital for capacity, technology or expansion. That is often where the largest compounding happens: ESDS, Omnitech and SEDEMAC came to market valued at roughly ₹2,800–6,000 crore and have since grown 2.4 to 3.5 times in size. Some of today’s smaller listings could follow the same path and become the multibaggers of the next few years.

But the same data shows why selectivity matters. One in three 2026 IPOs is still below its issue price, and seven have lost more than half their value. The winners shared common traits: a real business with growing earnings, sensible valuations at issue, and sectors with long growth runways such as data centres, precision manufacturing, power equipment and consumer brands. Investors who study the prospectus, compare valuations with listed peers, and keep tracking a company after listing, rather than chasing grey-market premiums, have been the ones rewarded.

With Jio Platforms’ ₹30,000-crore-plus issue, Zetwerk and Paras Healthcare lined up for the coming weeks, the final two months of 2026 will offer more opportunities and test whether investors keep paying up or start getting choosy. A listing-day pop is not a thesis; a good business bought at a fair price is.
